In vitro

In short Taking place outside a living organism, in a tube, dish or cell culture.

In vitro, Latin for "in glass", describes experiments carried out outside a living organism: in test tubes, on plates of cultured cells, or with isolated tissues and proteins. The opposite term, in vivo, refers to work in living organisms.

In vitro work lets researchers isolate one mechanism, control conditions closely and repeat experiments at low cost. Its limitation is that a dish is not a body: results do not automatically carry over to whole organisms, which is why published research distinguishes carefully between the two.

Much of the literature cited for research peptides comes from cell and animal models. When a product description on our site says a compound "is studied in laboratory models", that is what it refers to. It is not a claim that the compound is safe or effective in people.

All UKPeps products are supplied exclusively for in vitro research and laboratory work. They are not medicines, food supplements or cosmetics, and they are not for human or veterinary use.
